URGENT: RALLY IN SUPPORT OF STRIKING BLUE WATER BRIDGE WORKERS

CALLING ON ALL WORKERS AND ALLIES

Forty-seven (47) workers at the Blue Water Bridge, which links Point Edward/Sarnia to Michigan, walked off the job at 6am on November 21 after their employer, the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited (FBCL), walked away from the bargaining table. The 47 workers include toll collectors, cleaners, maintenance workers and currency exchange cashiers.

Unprecedented range of concessions demanded by employer

At the table, FBCL had been demanding an extremely wide range of concessions from workers, which would negatively affect benefits, pensions, maternity and parental leave, hours of work, and scheduling. When this group of workers refused to accept concessions that would send them back years, the FBCL walked away from the table, giving the workers little choice but to strike.

FCBL is a Crown corporation based in Ottawa and reports to Liberal Transport Minister Marc Garneau.

PSAC is calling on all members and allies to join a rally in downtown Ottawa this coming Thursday to send a loud and clear message to FBCL and Minister Garneau: tell your negotiators at the Blue Water Bridge to get back to the bargaining table and stop demanding outrageous concessions from workers!

WHEN: 12 pm (noon), Thursday November 24

WHERE: FBCL Headquarters, 55 Metcalfe St. (Ottawa)
